Comptroller and Accountant-General
Stamp-Office, Dublin, 25th April, 1834

We are proud to perceive by the official return just laid before Parliament, of Stamps issued to the respective Newspapers in Ireland, from teh 5th January, 1833, to the 5th of April, 1834, that the Limerick Chronicle holds its established prominent position in the Irish Provincial Press, having published more copies, and enjoyed a greater circulation than any other two-day Newspaper of Ireland. We also derive another gratifying fact from this return, that there are but two newspapers, Dublin Mail and Packet, in the Irish Metropolis above the Chronicle, and not one in teh four Provinces.
A Limerick Newspaper procured at our Stamp-office of Dublin, on the 4th April inst. by and express messenger, Fourteen Thousand Sheets of Stamp Paper, on the very eve of the official quarterly returns which are made up to the 5th of April, so that it may appear, on the face of the annual returns, that this Journal printed and circulated to above number within the year, in addition to its ordinary publications. — Dublin Paper
In addition to the above the same Newspaper procured on the same day at the district Stamp Office in Limerick, 2000 sheets of Stamp Paper, making 16,000 altogether, whichit did not circulate within thespecified period. — Therefor deducting this number from the official return the actual publication of that paper is necessarily reduced within fifteen months to 74,858, instead of 90,858.
