Limerick General Advertiser

5 November 1819

On Sunday the 30th ult., Zachariah LEDGER, Esq. of Borris-o-kane, entered the lands of Kilbreedy, in this County, accompanied by Major O'DELL, a Magistrate, and a party of the 12th Foot, from Charleville, to drive the Stock then under Seizure, for large arrears of rent—when a numerous body of men, armed with guns appeared to rescue them; however, from the precaution used by the Military, Mr. LEDGER succeeded in driving the Cattle to Ballingarry, where they were sold.  Mr. LEDGER's son, having become the purchaser, he caused them to be sent to Major O'DELL's, for the night.  At two o'ckock the following morning, upwards of one hundred armed men, with a fifer, assembled where the cattle were, firing shots, and shouting in defiance, while in the act of taking off the entire Stock!
