The data in my extracts includes entries that interest me from various Irish newspapers from 1720 to 1865 sorted by family name. Simon's extracts references from Longford / Leitrim / Westmeath / Roscommon and were previously on his site LONGFORD ANCESTRY in a different format. They add some bredth and richness to my own efforts.
Main families covered by my extracts include CROKER, COOTE, DREW, SWAN and others with some relationship with them.

LC | 1824 | 2 | 18 | NPS | CROKER | John Dillon | Esq | On Monday night or early Tuesday morning, an attempt was made to burn a range of houses belonging to John Dillon CROKER, Esq. of Quartertown near Mallow; they were set fire to in five or six places, and were it not that fortunately an inhabitant of one of the was up, the whole would, in all probability, have been consumed. No doubt can exist that there was a malicious intention to burn these houses, for under the thatch of several of them tow was found, obviously placed there for the purposze of destruction. | NickR |

LC | 1825 | 2 | 09 | NPS | CROKER | John Dillon | Esq | The Mills of Quartertown, the property of John Dillon CROKER, Esq. within a shortdistance of Mallow, were at an early hour on Sunday morning burned to the ground. It will be recollected that about two years ago, on thhe same day, and at the same hour, they were burned by some atrocious incendiaries: and we have our apprehensions that when an investigation which is called for will take place before the Magistrates, it will appear to have its origin in smilar motives. | NickR |
LC | 1825 | 2 | 12 | NPS | CROKER | John Dillon | Esq | The Mills of Mr. CROKER, near Mallow, which were burned on Sunday, it appears were caused by a snuff of candle falling on the inflamable dust in the shelling room. The concerns, we are glat to find fr the respectable proprietor, were insured for £2000. | NickR |
LC | 1826 | 6 | 17 | NPS | CROKER | John Dillon | Esq | Mallow Election commenced on Thursday with unexpected bustle, and the Sessions-House was crowded. C. D. O. Jephson, Esq was proposed by John D. Croker, Esq. and seconded by Noble Seward, Esq. Lord Glentworth was put in nomination in a person named Bucke, and another 40s. freeholder, amidst the most discordant hisses from the friends of Mr. Jephson, who were by far the more numerous. Mr. Jephson stated his claims to the electors, and avowed himself an advocate of liberal principles. Mr. M. Barrington attempted to address the people on the put of Lord Glentworth, but was interrupted and prevented speaking. Counselor Franks considered it extraordinary that the paid agent of Lord Glentworth should presume to address the populace in the character of his Lordship's representative, especially as he was not a freeholder. Mr. Barrington made an effort to reply; he was hard to say he was equal to the last Gentleman in property, family, and connexion, but desisted from the uproar that prevailed. The polling commenced shortly after, and Lord Glentworth had a majority of three at the conclusion. In the evening, Mr. Spring Race and his brother-in-law, Sir Aubrey Hunt. Bart. arrived in Mallow, to assist the election of Lord Wentworth. At the conclusion of the poll on Thursday, the numbers were, for Mr. Jephson, 25 ; Lord Glentworth, 18majority, 7. Yesterday, Lord Glentworth's fiends gave up the contest, and Mr. Jephson retired with a majority of two votes over his opponent. Mr Jephson was then declared duly elected. | NickR |
