The data in my extracts includes entries that interest me from various Irish newspapers from 1720 to 1865 sorted by family name. Simon's extracts references from Longford / Leitrim / Westmeath / Roscommon and were previously on his site LONGFORD ANCESTRY in a different format. They add some bredth and richness to my own efforts.
Main families covered by my extracts include CROKER, COOTE, DREW, SWAN and others with some relationship with them.
TYPE has the following values NPB = birth, NPM = marriage, NPD = death, NPA = advertisement, NPN = notice, NPS = news story

Longford Msgr | 1837 | 2 | 24 | NPS | O'REILLY | Dominick | Esq | MURDER! - CORONER'S INQUEST. On Wednesday, the 15th instant, an inquest was held on the body of Mr. Thomas Little, before Dominick O'Reilly, Esq., and a respectable jury. It appeared that on the night of the 15th January last, as deceased was returning from the town of Keenagh to his father's house, he was waylaid by four or five persons, who beat him in a most savage manner, fracturing his skull, and leaving several contusions on his body. He lingered until Sunday night, the 12th instant, when death relieved him of his sufferings. The murder took place on his father's ground, and within a short distance of his own house! There has not been a murder committed in this part of the country for many years which has caused such indignation and disgust as the one in question. Mr. Little was one of the most unoffending and quiet persons living, not even being connected with any political body whatsoever, neither was he a freeholder. No cause can be assigned for the perpetration of this act, but ONE; and what is that, think you, reader? why - he was a PROTESTANT! - that is the CRIME of which he was guilty, and for which he has FORFEITED HIS LIFE! A verdict of wilful murder was returned against Thomas Edgworth, John Murray, James Halfpenny, and - Murtagh, who have as yet, we understand, escaped the vigilance of the law. | SdeM

The course was laid out over the beautiful grass farm of P. O'Reilly, Esq., who had in the kindest manner given leave for that purpose. The whole course could be distinctly seen from the winning-post, and the day being very fine, and a number of equipages on the course, gave a brilliancy and gaiety to the scene which we have seldom seen equalled in the county of Longford. Soon after one o'clock the first match came off between Mr. Montfort's ch. m., ridden by the owner, and Mr. Blackall's blk. h. Cleek, ridden by Captain Campbell, which was won easily by the latter ... | SdeM

Longford Msgr | 1837 | 3 | 31 | NPS | OWENS | Patrick | STATE OF THIS COUNTY On Tuesday night last, as a respectable farmer named Patrick Owens, of Mount-Davis, was ploughing on the lands of Newtown-moore, he forgot that he had left his coat after him, and on returning rather late in the evening to obtain it, was assaulted by Michael Casey, his son Thomas Casey, Dominick Martin, and Thomas Casey, who attempted to swear him never to come on the lands which he held under Mr. Montfort. Thomas Casey had a gun and told him he would blow his brains out should he persist in keeping possession. Owens, much to his credit, notwithstanding their threats, refused taking any oath, but said he would give up the ground if the fine which he gave the landlord on getting possession was refunded. Nothing more occurred till Thursday night, when some persons who have not been yet identified, went to a house belonging to Owens, and to carry their intentions into effect burned it to the ground. Owens or his family, fortunately for themselves were not in the house at the time, by which they escaped the evil designs of their enemies. The Caseys and Dominick Martin, the principle in the transaction, are apprehended and lodged in jail for attempting to administer unlawful oaths; the former, has been let out on bail. It appeared that Michael Casey had the ground from Mr. Montfort sometime previous without paying any fine, but gave it up in consequence of not being allowed to take away a quantity of manure, belonging to a poor woman. Patrick Owens got possession shortly afterwards, by paying a fine to the Landlord, Mr. Montfort, which is the only cause assigned for such an outrage. | SdeM

From his having lived for many years with the late General Sir Edward Pakenham as own man, and subsequently with his brother, the Earl of Longford, for several years, as House Steward, and having had considerable experience in business, he flatters himself qualified to conduct this Establishment in such a manner as to give general satisfaction. The Inn at Killucan will be carried on as usual. | SdeM
