The data in my extracts includes entries that interest me from various Irish newspapers from 1720 to 1865 sorted by family name. Simon's extracts references from Longford / Leitrim / Westmeath / Roscommon and were previously on his site LONGFORD ANCESTRY in a different format. They add some bredth and richness to my own efforts.
Main families covered by my extracts include CROKER, COOTE, DREW, SWAN and others with some relationship with them.

DEP | 1810 | 2 | 22 | NPS | O'BRIEN | Cornelius | Esq | FATAL DUAL!BALBRIGGAN, WEDNESDAY MORNING, FEB. 21.About eight o'clock this morning, three post-chaises were observed driving rapidly over the bridge of Knockengin, which joins the counties of Dublin and Meath. They immediately drove to the strand contiguous to the county of Meath, and the persons that were in them having alighted, proceeded to the business of marking out the ground and charging the pistols, for a duel between two gentlemen, one of the name of DREW, and the other of O'BRIEN. Whatever the cause of quarrel might have been, it was soon decided, for on taking their places, and the signal being given by the seconds, they fired together, when instantaneously Mr. D. fell, dead! his opponent's ball having entered his forehead over the left eye, passing through the brain, and coming out at the back of his head! By this time numbers of the peasantry were assembled on the banks above the shore, something like an indistinct murmur was expressed, of taking the survivor into custody, but this was prevented by the immediate flight of himself and second to the post-chaise, which drove off with them with the rapidity of lightningnor were the rest of the party flow in followingfor before a quarter of an hour elapsed from their arrival, all had disappeared, leaving the breathless, bleeding body of their companion to the promiscuous care of the surrounding multitude. | NickR

LC | 1826 | 7 | 26 | NPS | O'CONNELL | Mr | Tralee Assizes Child Murder Ann ROCHE, an old woman, of very advanced age, was indicted for the murder of Michael LEAHY, a young child by drowning him in the Fleak. This case, which at ... assumed a very serious aspect, from the meaning imported to words spoken by the prisoner, "that the sin of the child's death was on the grand-mother, and not on the prisoner, and not on the prisoner," turned out to be a homicide committed under the delusion of the grossest superstition. The child, the four year old, could neither stand, walk, or speakwas thought to be Fairy struckand the grand-mother ordered the prisoner and one of the witnesses, Mary CLIFFORD, to bathe the child every morning, in that pool of the river Fleak, where the boundaries of three farms met; they had so bathed it for three mornings, and on the last morning the prisoner kept the child longer under the water than usual, when her companion (the witness, Mary CLIFFORD) said to the prisoner, "how can you hope to see God after this," to which the prisoner replied "that the sin was on the grand-mother and not on her." Upon cross examination, the witness said it was not done with the intent to kill the child, but to cure itto get the Fairy out of it The Policeman, who apprehended her, on charging her with drowning the child, she said it was no matter as it had died four years ago. Baron PENNEFATHER said, though it was a case of suspicion, and required to be thoroughly examined into, yet the Jury would not be safe in convicting the prisoner of murder, however strong the suspicion might be. VerdictNot Guilty In this case, Counsel for the Crown prosecuted. The prisoner was defended by Messrs. O'CONNELL and H. WALSHE. | NickR
