The data in my extracts includes entries that interest me from various Irish newspapers from 1720 to 1865 sorted by family name. Simon's extracts references from Longford / Leitrim / Westmeath / Roscommon and were previously on his site LONGFORD ANCESTRY in a different format. They add some bredth and richness to my own efforts.
Main families covered by my extracts include CROKER, COOTE, DREW, SWAN and others with some relationship with them.
TYPE has the following values NPB = birth, NPM = marriage, NPD = death, NPA = advertisement, NPN = notice, NPS = news story

LC | 1823 | 7 | 05 | NPS | BLACKER | Mr | This day, Mr. BLACKER held a session under the Insurrection Act in the City Court, when John MAHER was put on his trial, charged with being an idle and disorderly person, having been found skulking on the high road near the Artilery Barrack, at an unseasonable hour on the 27th of June last. This wwas the person who robbed the Nunnery Chapel some time since of a silver cup, but for want of prosecution on that charge, was liberated. He stated in his defence to account for his being found out, that he had been denounced by the Clergy; that no person would permit him into a dwelling-house; and that, in consequence, he was obliged to sleep in a lime-kiln convenient to where he was taken. Mr. BLACKBOURNE said his case did not come within the meaning of the Act, not having a known place of residence, and he was ordered to be discharged. The Court then adjourned and the Learned Counsel set out for Dublin. | NickR

WMT J | 1827 | 3 | 15 | NPS | BOCKANAN | LONGFORD ASSIZES. ... A case of horrible murder committed in the month of June last, on a man named Needham, a Protestant, excited intense interest. Two men named Buchannan (commonly called Bockanan) and Dinnigan were tried on Thursday last for this offence, which was characterized by peculiar traits of atrocity. After a patient investigation of several hours, and a most luminous charge from the Judge, both the prisoners were found guilty, and received sentence of death. The conduct of Buchannan on the occasion, evinced the most daring spirit. When that part of the sentence which directed that their bodies should be delivered to the Surgeons for dissection, was pronounced, this hardened criminal exclaimed that he (the Judge) "could do no worse"; and he thanked God, that "although it was in his power to order punishment for the body, he could not molest his soul". The same unbending spirit marked his conduct to the last. On Saturday about one o'clock, the two wretched criminals were brought forward for execution; Dinnigan appeared both nearly lifeless and insensible, but his comrade stepped upon the platform with the utmost firmness, and immediately with a loud voice, called to the immense surrounding multitude, "to kneel down and pray for him, for THAT HE WAS GOING TO DIE FOR HIS COUNTRY AND HIS RELIGION". The attendant clergyman very properly stopped this harangue, and the culprit, after some time spent in prayer, seemed more sensible of his awful situation. With a firm tone, he again called aloud to the people to pray for him, and entreated them to pursue the advice of their Parents and of their priests', and to avoid bad company and night walking, to which he owed his untimely end.* The drop fell, and the struggle of life was soon over. It is satisfactory to add, that Buchannan in private, acknowledged his guilt, and the justice of his sentence. After this admission, Buchannan exclaimed that he died for his religion and his country - ergo, Murdering a Protestant is to die for religion !!! | SdeM

WMT J | 1826 | 11 | 09 | NPS | BOND | Mary | EPITAPH ON A MONUMENT IN HORSELEYDOWN CHURCH, IN CUMBERLAND. Here lies the bodies Of THOMAS BOND and MARY his wife. She was temperate, chaste and charitable, BUT Her Husband and Child, whom she loved Seldom saw her countenance without a disgusting frown, While she received Visitors whom she despised, with an endearing smile. Her behaviour was discreet towards Strangers; BUT Imprudent in her Family. Abroad, her conduct was influenced by good breeding; BUT At home, by ill temper. She was a professed enemy to Flattery, And was seldom known to Praise or Commend; BUT The Talents in which she principally excelled Were difference of Opinion, and discovering flaws and imperfections. She was an admirable Economist; And, without Prodigality, Dispensed Plenty to every Person in her Family; BUT Would sacrifice their eyes to a Farthing Candle, She sometimes made her Husband happy with her good Qualities; BUT Much more frequently miserable - with her Many Failings; Insomuch that in thirty years cohabitation, he often Lamented that, maugre all her Virtues, He had not, in the whole, enjoyed two years of Matrimonial Comfort. AT LENGTH, Finding that she had lost the affections of her Husband, As well as the regard of her Neighbours, Family Disputes having been divulged by Servants, She died of Vexation, July 20, 1768, Aged 48 years. Her worn-out Husband survived her Four Months and Two days, and Departed this Life, November 28, 1768, In the 54th year of his age. WILLIAM BOND, Brother to the Deceased, erected This Stone, As a WEEKLY MONITOR to the surviving Wives of this Parish, that they may avoid the infamy Of having their Memories handed down to Posterity With a "patch-work" Character. | SdeM
